Was Sushant Singh Rajput’s Death Updated On Wikipedia Even Before He Had Died? Fact Check HERE
In the days following Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, a lot has happened on social media. From debate about nepotism and bullying in Bollywood, to conspiracy theories behind his death, social media is flooded with just too much information. However, not all of it is what it seems like. While fans only want justice for the late actor, some of these posts and conspiracy theories are not true. One of them being the viral social media post that showed Sushant Singh Rajput’s Wikipedia page was edited with the information of his death much before he had actually died. However, that’s not what happened exactly.

The viral post on social media shows screenshots of the edits made to Sushant’s Wikipedia page. The screenshots show that the information about Sushant’s death was edited at 8:59 AM. However, Netizens questioned that if he passed away at around 10:30 AM, how is it possible for someone to have had information about his death, even before it actually happened? However, looks like the issue here is the time zone. If one was to check the ‘View History’ section of Sushant’s Wikipedia page, they would find that someone started editing it at around 8:55 AM on June 14.

The IP location of the editor can be traced to New Delhi, India, and while the time does show 8:59 AM, it’s not actually the Indian Standard Time.

The time on Wikipedia is recorded as per Coordinated Universal Time or UTC. UTC is actually 5 hours and 30 minutes behind the Indian Standard Time. Wikipedia's "Page: History" also mentions, "All editable pages on Wikimedia projects have an associated page history which consists of the old versions of the wikitext as well as a record of the date and time (in UTC) of every edit, the username or IP address of the user who wrote it and their edit summary." Which means, that whoever edited it from India, actually did it at 8:59 AM UTC. Converting it to Indian Standard Time, that makes it 2:29 PM, on June 14., which is actually a few hours after Sushant’s demise.
